Chisom Obasi
Chisom Obasi is the Founder and Creative Director of Sommy Obasi, a premium footwear brand created for women who move with purpose, confidence, and intention.
The story of Sommy Obasi began long before the brand officially launched. In 2016, while in her 400 Level studying law at University, Chisom’s mother who frequently travelled to Dubai to source fabrics for her fashion business would also purchase flat sandals during her trips and entrust them to Chisom to sell as a way of earning additional income alongside her pocket money.
What started as a simple opportunity became Chisom’s first introduction to entrepreneurship. Through those early sales, she discovered a love for business, customer relationships, and creating value. It was also during this period that the vision for Sommy Obasi was born.
As she gained experience, Chisom realised that depending on someone else’s travels to source products was not a sustainable business model. She made a promise to herself that after graduating from University, completing law school, and establishing her legal career, she would build a footwear brand of her own; one rooted in quality, timeless design, and excellence. Although she had not encountered many Nigerian-owned premium footwear brands at the time, she believed that a Nigerian brand could be built to the highest standards of craftsmanship, design, and excellence, earning its place on the global stage.
Before fully dedicating herself to building Sommy Obasi, Chisom built a distinguished legal career spanning more than seven years across financial services, having worked with Law firms, Tier 1 commercial banks, fintech companies, and high-growth unicorn businesses. Her experience navigating complex legal, commercial, and business environments shaped the discipline, strategic thinking, and operational excellence that define the Sommy Obasi brand today.
Beyond business, Chisom is deeply passionate about helping women become everything they were created to be.
She has hosted several editions of the Women Power Networking Brunch in partnership with CEOs Network Africa, bringing together aspiring female entrepreneurs for meaningful conversations, connection, and growth. She believes confidence is built from the inside out and that what a woman wears should reflect the strength, elegance, and purpose she carries within.
A lover of travel, intentional living, and timeless style, Chisom founded Sommy Obasi with a simple but enduring vision: to create beautifully crafted footwear that empowers women to move through every season of life with confidence, grace, and purpose.
